On February 12, our English Debating Team took part in the Berlin International Debating Competition hosted by Gymnasium Tiergarten. The event brought together participants from 16 schools and featured three junior debates (Years 9–10) and three senior debates (Years 11–12).
For many of our students, the competition was a real leap into the unknown. Most had little previous debating experience. This makes their achievements all the more remarkable: despite largely preparing individually, they performed with confidence, teamwork, and impressive argumentative skill.
As a team, our junior debaters won two of their three debates — a fantastic result. Individual performances were equally outstanding: Bo was awarded Best Speaker among all junior participants from the 16 schools, and Ilse achieved second place in the junior speaker ranking. The senior team also celebrated success, with Sydney being recognised as second-best speaker in the senior category.
